You may remember our old post from 2023 when the Agency introduced us to the coming changes to the waste exemptions regime. The changes were drastic, including removal of the scrap metal T9 exemption and major changes to the S2 storage of waste exemption. Another big issue was the change that meant that a permitted site could no longer also have exemptions. The permit, as the higher level of authorisation, was to be all important.
Well, it seems that those changes, long delayed, do now seem to be heading our way. We have had notification from three officers in the last week alone that the “exemptions are going”. This seems to have filtered through to the industry as we have had three enquiries from T9 sites for environmental permit applications just this week.
This change coupled with the introduction of the new Standard Rules permits for transfer stations (Changes to Standard Rules Permits introduced. – AC Environmental) will shake up the industry.
It looks like it is going to be a busy year of environmental permitting.
