Change to Qualifications?
As you will know from our previous post on this topic, the Environment Agency introduced eight new Standard Rules permits which have replaced a range of old Standard Rules permits effective from 18th December 2024.
One question that this raised, which was unanswered, was what impact did this have on the Wamitab/COTC requirements? Well, we now have the answer, it has an impact. CIWM have today published their updated risk tables Primary Competence – CIWM (WAMITAB) to show what qualifications are needed and operators of old style waste treatment permits, skip operators/transfer stations and the like, now operating under SR2022 no 4, will now need to hold two original certificates.
Technically this may well be correct but we’re not sure where the benefit of this change is, other than to fill the pockets of the CIWM, it will be interesting to see how the Agency plan to enforce this.
