Defra plans to make digital waste tracking mandatory beginning in April 2025.
They have stated that this would provide a full view of where waste generated in the UK ended up and would help more effective regulation.
There would also be fewer possibilities for waste criminals since regulators would have access to information about where and how waste is generated, who manages it, what happens to it, and where it ends up. This, in turn, will aid environmental regulators efforts to catch criminals and establish a more fair playing field for genuine waste operators.
